L’ascension fulgurante d’un défenseur central
En juin 2022, Ibrahima Konaté faisait son apparition au sein de l’équipe de France. Avec 15 sélections à son actif, ce jeune défenseur central de 25 ans s’est rapidement affirmé comme une valeur sûre. Il est même pressenti pour succéder à Raphaël Varane, qui a pris sa retraite internationale en hiver 2023.
Malgré une fin de saison mitigée avec son club, Liverpool, où il a souvent été relégué sur le banc, Konaté dégage une énergie positive et un optimisme communicatif. Son visage est souvent illuminé par un large sourire, preuve de sa joie de vivre.
Confiant pour l’Euro 2024
Lors d’une rencontre le 31 mai, avant l’annonce de nouvelles élections législatives – sujet sur lequel il n’a pas encore eu l’opportunité de s’exprimer publiquement -, Konaté a partagé sa confiance quant à l’entrée en lice des Bleus lors de l’Euro 2024. Le premier match de l’équipe de France aura lieu le lundi 17 juin, face à l’Autriche, à Düsseldorf.
Un travail acharné pour être prêt
Malgré un temps de jeu réduit lors des derniers matchs de Liverpool, Konaté refuse de parler de "déclassement". Selon lui, les enjeux étaient moindres lors de ces rencontres. S’il en avait été autrement, il aurait abordé la situation avec son entraîneur, l’Allemand Jürgen Klopp.
Cela ne l’a pas empêché de redoubler d’efforts individuellement, en parallèle des entraînements avec son club, pour être fin prêt pour l’Euro. Il estime être en bonne forme mentale, bien qu’il lui manque encore un peu de temps de jeu pour être physiquement à son meilleur niveau.
Des objectifs sans cesse renouvelés
Konaté n’a pas toujours été aussi ambitieux. À 12-13 ans, son rêve était simplement de devenir professionnel. C’est en intégrant le centre de formation du FC Sochaux qu’il a commencé à viser plus haut. Depuis, il a dépassé certains de ses objectifs et a dû s’en fixer de nouveaux pour continuer à progresser.
En dépit de sa progression rapide – plus rapide que prévu, confie-t-il avec un sourire – Konaté reste conscient que sa carrière est éphémère. Il est déterminé à ne pas fléchir. Parfois, allongé dans son lit, il s’imagine ce qu’il aurait pu accomplir sans les blessures. Il pourrait être le meilleur défenseur central actuel, pense-t-il. Mais ces obstacles ne font que renforcer sa détermination et lui donner un mental d’acier, aussi bien sur le terrain que dans la vie.
