Une nouvelle tragédie a récemment secoué l’une des voies migratoires les plus mortelles. Le lundi 17 juin, deux bateaux transportant des migrants ont sombré en Méditerranée, entraînant la mort de onze personnes. Des dizaines d’autres sont toujours portées disparues, selon des informations fournies par une organisation non gouvernementale (ONG) et les garde-côtes. Ces embarcations, qui ont chaviré au large de l’Italie, seraient parties de Turquie et d’Afrique du Nord.
Intervention de l’ONG allemande ResQship
D’après un rapport de l’ONG allemande ResQship, son bateau de secours, le Nadir, a sauvé 51 personnes dont deux étaient inconscientes. Cette opération de sauvetage a eu lieu entre les côtes libyennes et l’île italienne de Lampedusa. Les personnes secourues se trouvaient sur une embarcation en bois remplie d’eau, où les corps de dix autres migrants ont été découverts.
Sauvetage des garde-côtes italiens
De leur côté, les garde-côtes italiens ont annoncé avoir sauvé 12 personnes à bord d’un voilier en détresse au large de la Calabre, située au sud de l’Italie, près de la frontière maritime entre les eaux italiennes et grecques. Malheureusement, un passager a perdu la vie durant l’opération. Selon l’agence Ansa, environ cinquante passagers sont toujours portés disparus.
L’alerte donnée par des plaisanciers français
L’alerte a été déclenchée par des plaisanciers français qui ont repêché les rescapés à environ 120 miles nautiques de la côte italienne. Ces derniers ont par la suite été pris en charge par un navire commercial dérouté, avant d’être transférés sur un bateau des garde-côtes qui les a conduits au port de Roccella Ionica.
Recherche en cours
Des opérations de recherche sont toujours en cours suite à ces naufrages. Les garde-côtes et l’agence européenne de garde-frontières et de garde-côtes Frontex, déploient des ressources maritimes et aériennes pour retrouver les disparus. Cependant, le nombre exact de personnes manquantes n’a pas été précisé.
Bilan migratoire
En 2023, 3 155 migrants ont perdu la vie ou ont disparu en Méditerranée, un chiffre en hausse par rapport à l’année précédente où 2 411 décès ont été recensés, selon l’Organisation internationale pour les migrations.
